How to groom a horse/pony

  1. Pick your horse's hooves.
  2. Use a curry comb to remove loose hair from the horse.
  3. Use a dandy brush (also called the hard brush).
  4. Clean up with a soft brush (also known as the body brush).
  5. Clean the horse's face.
  6. Brush out the mane and tail.
  7. If it is summer or hot out, you may want to spray the horse with fly spray.
  8. Never stand directly behind your horse while grooming. Approach your horse at an angle. Move calmly and deliberately. Wear the proper shoes. Be ready to move.

How to tack up a horse/pony

  1. Groom the horse.
  2. If you want to do the bridle first, tie your pony's head-collar so that it is around his neck, then put on the bridle
  3. Put on the saddle pad/blanket/cloth
  4. Place the saddle gently on the horse's back.
  5. Put on his cinch or girth.
  6. Put on the horse's boots.
  7. Hold the crown, noseband, and throat latch in your right thumb, under and over the horse's head.
  8. Put the crown/headpiece of the bridle over the horse's ears.
  9. Buckle the throat latch
  10. Buckle the nose band.
  11. If you have a flash, buckle it.
  12. Mount your horse and you are ready to ride! Have fun!
